I've been writing in one form or another since grade school. Countless comics, film scripts, sketch comedy skits, and even a few plays. It wasn't until 2005 that I decided to become a horror screen writer and follow my passion for the gruesome, macabre, and dark comedy. This led to the creation of Blood Gate Films with my co-partner Greg Pauley. Together we tried for years to get a film off the ground, and while we always received accolades we never received funding. So, we decided to create a comic based off of Greg's character Murder Face. I began writing a script and finding an artist and the idea of finally getting a story created in a medium that I could share was thrilling.

The idea that I could write stories and people could finally see them was a turning point for me. I began reading, watching, and researching everything I could to prepare for a foray into the comic medium. I had a bunch of film scripts and short stories that were ready to be taken to the next level but I wanted something ongoing. I needed something that I could write consistently while developing new projects and that is where Zahra and Gene were born. A story with a silly dynamic with infinite possibilities where I could delve into drama, mystery, romance, the supernatural, and flex my funny bone while doing it. The ideas came fast and within a week I had mapped out 9 main stories, a spin-off, and several side stories. It's going to be a rollercoaster and I cannot wait to take this ride with all of you.

After deciding to take the leap headfirst into writing comics I then realized I needed an outlet. There are a million ways to publish comics in this day and age and the one that felt the most fitting to me was to self publish. It felt like it was my TIME to shine. My TIME to finally take the reins and tell the stories I want to tell in the manner that I want to tell them. My whole life I've filled files with stories that no one would ever see and it was TIME for a change. The word TIME came up a lot while I thought about my plans for the future. I was always afraid I'd run out of it before I ever got to tell my story and now it felt like the TIME was right. This thought process led to the logo and name for Hourglass Comix. For years I felt the sands of time burying me under the weight of failed projects and with Hourglass Comix I can finally flip that hourglass over and put time on my side. I can sift through the sands and find the grains of ideas that work and finally introduce them to the world.

I want to thank every person who has pushed me along this course. Friends who inspired me to never give up, family that urged me to continue when I Couldn't find the will, and anyone who is reading my journey right now. Never give up on yourself or your dreams.
